Establish a quiet environment when you enter a room your pet is in. Play time is good to have with your pet, however, you need to teach your dog to be calm as you enter any room.

Make sure you use control to reward your dog. If you are able to command your dog to do something the right way, then reward him only if he/she is calm. If you get excited, the dog will become that way too.

Try not to reinforce bad behavior in your dog. This means you must not reward your dog treats for doing something you don’t want it to do. If you wish to keep your dog from begging for table scraps, don’t rub it’s head.

Limit the duration of your training sessions. Spending too much time just on training will start to bore the dog. Try to limit initial sessions to 10 minutes or less.

Teach your dog not to bark with a silent command to avoid barking. If you continue to repeat this, the dog is sure to associate treats with the command to be silent.

Use the appropriate tone when speaking to your dog. Dogs can be very perceptive and can pick up cues from their trainers. A dog will realize that a stern tone.

Do not give your dog too many treats he gets in one day.

It is vital that the leash remain loose when you are trying to train a leash. Dogs love exploring new territory when they get the opportunity to go walking. This makes them excited and want to pull on the leash if it’s held too tightly.

Don’t ever reward or ignore bad behavior because you want to put a stop to it. This method will only makes the dog learning to do what it wants and has power over you. An example of something to avoid is giving the dog a treat when it is barking.

Your dog needs to learn the “down” command. This is an important command will be useful if you need to keep your dog from jumping on someone. A dog that understands the “down” command will lie down immediately in a dangerous situation, so it’s perfect for safety reasons.

If you want to take your dog to agility competitions, be sure to choose a breed of dog that does well with this sort of activity. Most dogs can perform agility, but some breeds are more competitive such as collies, Australian shepherds and Labs usually do best in these competitions.
